East Meets West/West Meets East in the brushwork of Wei Nian Xi, the Chinese name given to Nancy Wilson, American woman artist of Chinese traditional brush and ink.

It was a life's dream search to find a philosopher/professor of Chinese art who could satisfy Nancy's desire to create Chinese influence imagery that would reinforce her western traditional training. She sought a professor who would encourage contemporary interpretation. Beijing-born philosopher/painter, Professor Cao Jinqi, provided her this guidance.

Numerous travels into China serve as inspiration for Nancy, from the ancient and traditional imagery found in villages and museums, to the bursting of unfettered contemporary expression now appearing in private museums and galleries. She has and continues to experience a unique China, sometimes harsh, but mostly gentle, always sensitive, always inviting. It is her impression of old and new China that is the spirit of her painting.

Nancy's paintings have been exhibited in the highly respected Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts Gallery of Contemporary Art; in Qufu, hometown of Confucius, at the Confucius Academy of Philosophy and Fine Arts; and in the China History Museum in Beijing. In 1998 her painting "Cathedral of Self" (Chinese titled "Big Church") received honorable recognition from the Chinese Fine Arts Society of Chicago. Since 1996 she has been invited annually to hang a selection of her paintings in Phoenix City Hall during commemoration of Phoenix Chinese Week celebrations. Nancy's paintings are collected here at home and in Asia.
